Is Bush Admin Flipping on Gun Rights?

Early in President Bush's first term, the Justice Department adopted the "individual rights" interpretation of the Second Amendment. According to administration attorneys, the weight of historical evidence and academic scholarship supported this view. Now, however, it appears that at least one federal agency (the Federal Aviation Administration) is endorsing the "collective rights" view in a rulemaking concerning whether firearms should be allowed during space travel. Given that proposed rules are supposed to be subject to White House review in the Office of Management and Budget, the question is whether this one just slipped by, whether it represents a sign that the Administration is backing off the "individual rights" interpretation favored by most supporters of gun rights, or whether this is something that only those of us who with scheduled space travel need worry about. (Link via Instapundit)

UPDATE: It is important to note that, according to David Cordrea, the FAA maintains that the rule's language was approved by the Executive Office of the President. This would suggest that the White House, perhaps inadvertently, let through a statement that the Second Amemdment only protects a "collective right" to arms. If this represents an official change in policy, it is significant (and far more significant than the FAA's regulation, which could easily have met the more exacting scrutiny required by an "individual rights" interpretation of the Second Amendment).

Ground spider diversity studied in research project
None of Takesha Henderson's discoveries are named Charlotte, but they are weaving a new chapter in Texas entomology. Her graduate studies at Texas A&M University have led to the discovery of 25 new spiders in Brazos County and one species found for the first time in Texas. In research sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Henderson, who is earning a master's degree, has been studying ground spider diversity, distribution and abundance.

The gentler, simple good old days of 2006.
Thursday December 28, 2006. In Steeple People's free-magazine box, I saw a National Geographic with an article on the Solar System and what's new in what we know about it. I looked to see how dated it was. December 2006 issue!

Bought some books on self-change. Picked up some computer-cleaning tools from the free box.

Went to the Wedge. Bought a few groceries.

***After a while, I felt good for the first time in a while. Whatever was wrong with my body had gone away.

Too bad this happened fairly late at night.
__________
More thoughts about what it would be like to be really longlived. Say to be a bit over a hundred, in reasonable health for a thirty-year-old.

A hundred years ago, more people were moving from the US to Mexico than vice versa. It would be another few years till Nevada banned all gambling. In the United Kingdom, the first person to be officially called "Prime Minister" was in office. Marxists expected the first revolution to be in one of the advanced countries of Western Europe. There was evidence that vitamins existed, but none would be found for a few years yet.

And in 2106/2107?
